Prokera® Treatment At Yealy Eye Care

At Yealy Eye Care, we are committed to providing advanced treatments to promote healing and improve eye health. Prokera® is a revolutionary therapeutic device that uses amniotic membrane tissue to treat various eye conditions and support the healing process.

Our experienced optometrists utilize Prokera® to help patients achieve relief from inflammation, pain, and damage to the ocular surface.

What is Prokera®?

Prokera® is a medical device that contains a piece of amniotic membrane tissue encased in a ring set. This biologic tissue has natural anti-inflammatory, anti-scarring, and healing properties. The amniotic membrane is placed on the eye to protect the cornea and facilitate healing of the damaged or diseased ocular surface.

Prokera® is effective in treating a variety of eye conditions, including:

  • Severe Dry Eye: Provides relief by reducing inflammation and promoting healing of the corneal surface.
  • Corneal Ulcers and Infections: Assists in the healing process and prevents scarring.
  • Chemical Burns: Helps repair and regenerate damaged tissue.
  • Corneal Erosions and Abrasions: Promotes faster recovery and reduces pain.
  • Post-Surgical Healing: Supports healing after procedures such as LASIK or cataract surgery.
  • Ocular Surface Disease: Addresses various conditions affecting the surface of the eye, including pterygium and conjunctivochalasis.

Benefits of Prokera®

  • Promotes Healing: The natural properties of amniotic membrane tissue support tissue regeneration and repair, leading to faster and more effective healing.

  • Reduces Inflammation: Prokera® helps to decrease inflammation and pain, providing relief for patients with chronic or acute conditions.

  • Prevents Scarring: By reducing inflammation and promoting proper healing, Prokera® minimizes the risk of scarring on the cornea.

  • Safe and Effective: Prokera® is FDA-approved and has been shown to be a safe and effective treatment for various ocular surface conditions.

The Prokera® Treatment Process

  • Evaluation: Our optometrists will conduct a thorough eye examination to determine if Prokera® is the appropriate treatment for your condition.

  • Insertion: The Prokera® device is placed on the eye in a procedure similar to inserting a contact lens. The process is quick and usually well-tolerated by patients.

  • Healing Period: Prokera® remains on the eye for several days to a week, depending on the severity of the condition being treated. During this time, the amniotic membrane works to heal and regenerate the ocular surface.

  • Removal: After the treatment period, the Prokera® device is removed during a follow-up visit. Our optometrists will assess your healing progress and provide any necessary additional care.
